Battle of the Bulbs: Powerful CFL or Smart LED?

Skytex offers kits with both CFL (Compact Fluorescent) and LED technology. Both are excellent, but they serve different masters. Here is the breakdown to help you decide.

CFL (Compact Fluorescent)

The Powerhouse. These are the spiral bulbs you see in traditional studio kits.

  • Pros: Incredible brightness per dollar. A 135W CFL puts out a massive amount of light. Perfect fixed 5500K white balance.
  • Cons: Fragile (glass), not dimmable, bulkier.
  • Best For: Green screen work, product photography, and lighting large spaces.

LED (Light Emitting Diode)

The Smart Choice. Modern panels or corn-bulbs.

  • Pros: Durable (plastic/metal), adjustable color temperature (warm to cool), dimmable via remote control, longer lifespan.
  • Cons: Slightly more expensive for the same raw output.
  • Best For: Streamers, video calls, small home studios where flexibility is key.
